The Tucson Highlander features a suite of intelligent safety technologies called Hyundai SmartSense™¹It includes: Blind-Spot Collision Warning (BCW), Driver Attention Warning (DAW), Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA), High Beam Assist (HBA), Lane Keeping Assist (LKA), Rear Cross-Traffic Collision Warning (RCCW) and Smart Cruise Control (SCC). 8-speed automatic transmission.

Available exclusively on the R Series 2.0 Diesel, the in-house developed 8-speed automatic transmission offers enhanced shift logic, is faster, more responsive, and has smoother gear shifts. The 8-speed automatic also enables more potent acceleration from stand still with improved NVH characteristics, more decisive acceleration at high speeds and greater fuel efficiency.

Cascading front grille.

The cascading front grille exudes style and sophistication on the Tucson. The Go and Active X variants have a matte black front grille with a matte grey surround whereas the Elite and Highlander variants have a glossy black grille with chrome surround and inserts.

Tucson adopts LED headlamps casting a brighter illumination compared to conventional halogen lighting systems. The automatic levelling system reduces glare to oncoming drivers by compensating for vehicle load (i.e. passengers and cargo).

The Tucson’s impressive technology extends all the way to the boot of the car with the smart tailgate. When standing within a metre of your boot with your proximity key for more than three seconds, it will automatically open for you handsfree.

The 8” touchscreen is integrated with satellite navigation, giving you directions on how to get to your next destination and also provides alerts about speed limits and speed/red light cameras within the area.

HTRAC.

HTRAC, meaning “Hyundai Traction”, increases traction on various environments and surfaces and intelligently redistributes power to all four wheels in more slippery conditions. In short, it means you’ll enjoy improved acceleration, greater stability and better fuel efficiency.

Australian tuned.

The Tucson features an Australian-specific suspension tune, developed over thousands of kilometres of local on-road testing specifically for our demanding road conditions. The tuning programme was carried out on a variety of road surfaces, including urban roads, highways, freeways, mountain passes, as well as country roads (including dirt, gravel, and corrugations).

Blind-Spot Collision Warning (BCW).

At speeds of 30 km/h or above, Blind-Spot Collision Warning (BCW) uses radar sensors on either side of the rear bumper to detect vehicles next to and diagonally behind Tucson. If a vehicle is present in Tucson’s blind spot, BCW displays a visual alert in the exterior mirrors. If the driver proceeds to activate the corresponding indicator lights, a flashing visual warning is provided and an audible alert is sounded.

The system also scans for vehicles approaching rapidly from the rear, and uses the same warning measures to alert the driver of vehicles which may be entering Tucson’s blind spot at a higher rate of speed.

Smart Cruise Control (SCC).

Smart Cruise Control (SCC) with Stop & Go detects the speed and distance of vehicles ahead of the Tucson. SCC maintains a safe distance to the vehicle ahead, up to a pre-set speed (between 30km/h – 180km/h).
The Stop & Go function works in stop/start traffic, bringing the vehicle to a stop when appropriate, and automatically (if within 3 seconds) accelerate back up to the original set speed. If the vehicle is stationary for over 3 seconds, SCC will prompt the driver to continue cruise conditions via the steering wheel switches.

Rear Cross-Traffic Collision Warning (RCCW).

Using the Blind-Spot Collision Warning (BCW) system’s radar sensors, at speeds below 10 km/h, the Rear Cross-Traffic Collision Warning (RCCW) monitors for traffic approaching on either side of Tucson when reversing out of perpendicular parking spaces. Should RCCW detect a vehicle approaching, an audible warning will sound, with a visual warning displayed on the dash cluster.

Driver Attention Warning (DAW).

At speeds above 60km/h and below 180km/h, Driver Attention Warning (DAW) uses the windshield mounted camera to continually monitor the vehicle’s position within the lane, whilst also tracking steering inputs, brake pedal inputs, as well as time since last break. Should the system detect careless driving (such as sudden steering/braking inputs and/or inability to keep within lane), the ‘Attention Level’ display on the cluster will continually decrease. Should the level decrease to a certain threshold, the DAW system will recommend that the driver take a break.
